4.5 / 6.3 MILE ROUTES

Howbarrow Trig point

THE 4.5 AND 6.3 MILE ROUTE INSTRUCTIONS WILL BE AVAILABLE FROM THE SCOUT HUT ON THE DAY
Howbarrow
The 4.5 mile route leaves the racecourse through woods and joins the Cumbria Coastal Way to lead you to the short climb to the cairn on Howbarrow. Rest a moment and enjoy the extensive views towards the Lake District fells, the Cartmel Valley, Hampsfell and Morecambe bay. On a clear day you can see Blackpool Tower!
The 6.3 mile route adds on a loop to Speel Bank.
Coniston Fells viewed from Howbarrow.
If you are very lucky, you may also spot the Snowdonia Range.
The route then passes through a small caravan site, fields, woods, quiet country lanes and farmyard to take you back to the finish in the scout hut.
There are refreshments at a checkpoint enroute

  1. Thoroughly enjoyed doing the Howbarrow walk this morning despite the heavy rain and wind, my dad and two dogs Perry & Kimba came too. Look forward to doing the same next year and hopefuly do all three.
