22 MILE ROUTE

Hampsfell

This route leaves the racecourse through woods and joins the Cumbria Coastal Way to lead you to the short climb to the cairn on Howbarrow. Rest a moment and enjoy the extensive views towards the Lake District fells, the Cartmel Valley, Hampsfell and Morecambe bay. On a clear day you can see Blackpool Tower! If you are very lucky, you may also spot the Snowdonia Range.

On the way to Humphrey Head...It can be a bit wet!!!
The way continues along the ridge to Bigland Tarn and Bigland Barrow fishing ponds. It passes through woods, fields, Field Broughton, and quiet country lanes to gain the Hampsfell ridge and the Hospice. It is here you can decide to continue with the 22 mile challenge or opt for the short route back by following the 13 mile route. We won't call you a wimp should you decide to take the easy way back.
